Carol Robertson in the studio

This week we have been working with the wonderful Carol Robertson, using a multitude of colours to make her hypnotic circular prints.

Carol has two paintings in the RA summer show that we will be going to see on Friday. We can’t wait to see them.

If you go, look out for Mali Morris’ Toussaint and Crossings and Stephen Chamber’s Journey without Maps East and West, all screen prints made here with us.

Stephen Chambers: Installation shots of ‘The Big Country’.

This is what we made with Stephen between June and September.

As Paul Huxley says in the introduction to the catalogue “Artists sometimes reach a point in their lives when they must attempt a great work ….. that sums up their experience of the world from where they stand at that moment”. Well, here it is and, even though he would not say it for himself, it is magnificent.

Part 6 of the Royal Academy Artists’ Laboratory series.

Currently on show at the R.A. and continues until December 2nd.

It is a screenprint on 78 sheets, each 56 x 76cm. Printed on Somerset T.P. 300gsm.

Published by the artist in an edition of 6 with 4 artist’s proofs.

The exhibition includes 'Trouble Meets Trouble’, a big group of etchings with chine colle and the artist’s book 'Portrait of a pre-caffeinated mind’.

A catalogue with an insightful essay by Rod Mengham is available.

As some of you may know each year we get one of our artists to design our screenprinted Christmas cards.

The cards are printed in very limited numbers and we are giving away the chance to be put on our card list this year. All you need to do is join our mailing list (on the right hand side of the page) and we will randomly select 5 people who will receive a card. This years card is being designed by Stephen Chambers RA. You can see his work on our website.

The running of Stephen Chambers’ edition The Ordeal of Richard Feverel. This is a large print of great complexity, really good colour that the camera can’t quite cope with.

This print, amongst many of Stephen’s other fantastic editions, will be available for sale from our new site very soon.

You can find more films of our work on our Youtube Channel here.

Daedalus - The Print Studio Collectors Club
Daedalus is an exciting venture from The Print Studio, Cambridge, and we would like to invite you to become a part of it.
Each year, two renowned artists will be commissioned to create a print each specifically for the Daedalus club. The prints are limited to an edition of 70, with 50 provided to the members of the club. The remaining 20 prints are sold by the artists at their full retail price. The first year, we were very fortunate to have the enthusiastic support of John McLean and Stephen Chambers, two gifted and highly regarded artists. Both have worked extensively with the studio in the past. Their prints ‘Drumsturdy’ and 'The Female Quixote’ were very popular.
This year two leading New York artists, Willard Boepple and Ellen Lanyon have kindly agreed to make work for Daedalus. Both of them have a considerable reputation for their graphic work which is held in many important collections.
Envisaged as a long term venture, the Daedalus Club will invite two new artists to participate each year, though membership will be restricted to 50. This small, select community provides a rare opportunity for members to become closely involved in the working life of one of the UK’s finest printmaking studios, whilst building an exceptionally affordable collection of first rate work by some of the world’s best artists.
  Membership provides:

Two prints each year (at no additional cost to the membership fee). Your membership number will correspond to the edition number on your prints. Members will receive the first print when they join and the second after six months.

A 20% discount on the purchase of any other prints available from the Print Studio’s extensive stock list during your term of membership.

An invitation to you and your guests to two exclusive studio events. There will be a summer ‘open studio’ with a chance to meet the artists and the printers. In the winter there will be an exhibition of recent work.

Invitations to private views or gallery exhibitions associated with the Print Studio.

Membership costs £60 a month for twelve months, although members can make a one-off payment if desired. If you are interested in joining us or would like further information, please contact Kip Gresham at the Print Studio as soon as possible. Bearing in mind that membership is limited to 50 and we foresee that places may be filled quickly, a prompt reply would be appreciated.
If you choose to join now, your first print will be by Willard Boepple. As a new member you would also have the option to add the previous Daedalus prints by John McLean and Stephen Chambers to your collection by paying a supplement for the first year’s subscription.
