Daedalus is an exciting venture from The Print Studio, Cambridge. Each year, two renowned artists are commissioned to create a print each specifically for the Daedalus club. The prints are limited to an edition of 70, with 50 provided to the members of the club. The remaining 20 prints are sold by the artists at their full retail price. The first year, we were very fortunate to have the enthusiastic support of John McLean and Stephen Chambers, two gifted and highly regarded artists. Both have worked extensively with the studio in the past. In 2011 two leading New York artists, Willard Boepple and Ellen Lanyon kindly agreed to make work for Daedalus. Both of them have a considerable reputation for their graphic work which is held in many important collections.
We are very happy to announce that the artists who have been selected for 2012 are Michael Brick and Claerwen James. Michael Brick has just completed his print ‘Double Earth’. It is a 6 colour screenprint with varnish on Somerset Velvet 300gsm paper and measures 65 x 49cm. Claerwen James will be making her print later in the year which will be her first ever screenprint edition. You can see some of her monoprints here.
Envisaged as a long term venture, the Daedalus Club invite two new artists to participate each year, though membership will be restricted to 50. This small, select community provides a rare opportunity for members to become closely involved in the working life of one of the UK’s finest printmaking studios, whilst building an exceptionally affordable collection of first rate work by some of the world’s best artists.
- Two prints each year (at no additional cost to the membership fee). Your membership number will correspond to the edition number on your prints. Members will receive the first print when they join and the second after six months.
- A 20% discount on the purchase of any other prints available from the Print Studio’s extensive stock list during your term of membership.
- An invitation to you and your guests to two exclusive studio events. There will be a summer ‘open studio’ with a chance to meet the artists and the printers. In the winter there will be an exhibition of recent work.
- Invitations to private views or gallery exhibitions associated with the Print Studio.
Membership costs £60 a month for twelve months, although members can make a one-off payment if desired. If you are interested in joining us or would like further information, please contact Ivana Gresham at firstname.lastname@example.org +44 (0)1223416415
